Meet the Team
Our team at Alaska Chiropractic and Therapy is dedicated to helping you live a pain-free life.
Stephanie Cabeza - LMT
I am a life-long learner, and understand that the psychology of chronic pain has an impact to healing. In 2021 I graduated with my B.S. in pre-med psychology with plans to pursue my doctorate in physical therapy down the road. Listening to my clients, unraveling the intricate dance the mechanics of our bodies create when injured and solving problems related to pain and movement is my specialty. I genuinely love people, and enjoy the process of healing.
Observations of movement as a yoga teacher, and the impact imbalances have on biomechanical alignment and overall health, began my studies in Kinesiology. I was trained in Hatha yoga in 2008, by a studio that also offered an isometric-based class designed to complement yoga through strengthening the most "overstretched" muscles in yoga. That class was designed by a Muscle Activation Technique specialist. I was intrigued by the impact regularly taking that class had on my own body and began my studies of M.A.T. in 2009.
Muscle Activation Techniques view tightness in the body as secondary to weakness or instability around the joints. We're taught to make bilateral comparisons of movement and seek out asymmetries that might lead to compensation. Using observation of range of motion, muscle tests, neuro-muscular reeducation (musculo-tendon palpation) and isometrics to drive strength into individual muscles that support movement. In essence, isolating and strengthening the weakest link. In 2015 I began to study the impact soft tissue manipulation could have on this process and added massage therapy to my skill set.
Laurel May - LMT
I was a ballerina for 20 years and sustained a few injuries to my back. Massage therapy was the most significant aid in my recovery. I met a massage therapist who inspired me to learn about the muscles in the body, which led me to pursue my career in massage therapy. I attained my license through the Alaska Institute of Massage.
Since moving to Alaska, it has been a goal of mine to go ice climbing with my dad. We've been rock climbing together for several years and have always wanted to go.
Cheyenne Terwilliger - Clinic Manager
I grew up in Alaska, spending my entire life in Anchorage and the Valley. After graduating high school, I pursued further education at a local college. Initially, I worked as a kennel manager to eventually open my own kennel. However, in early 2020, changes in the travel industry affected local pet care businesses, reducing the available work. Nonetheless, I graduated that year with a Small Business degree from the University of Alaska Anchorage, but I made a career change. I joined Alaska Chiropractic and Therapy as a receptionist. The welcoming atmosphere and our happy patients made me realize it was the best decision I could have made! After working with Peter and Chrissy for a year, they encouraged me to obtain my Certificate in Professional Billing. Following Dr. Lorentzen's retirement and the sale of his business, my role within the team continued to expand. Now, I provide administrative and billing support for the team.
Dogs (Left to Right): Timber & Rookie
When not assisting patients, I spend summer afternoons with my significant other and our two dogs in our garden- filled with various plants, primarily for eating or medical purposes. My favorite area is the six 30-foot rows of raspberries. Unfortunately, we have recently suspended most of our homesteading lifestyle due to renovations. We are working to develop our land further and improve the workable area. We plan to be almost entirely independent of commercial groceries. The collage to the right showcases my puppies, the hard work put into the raspberry bushes, and the 2022 flock of layer chickens.
The garden usually occupies most of my free time. However, on any sunny weekend, you can find me deep in the mountains on a four-wheeler, enjoying the precious rays of sunshine. Winter is a slower time for me. I hibernate near the woodstove with a good book or ten—a nice contrast to our busy office!
